Defensive Police Equipment

The duty of a police officer comes with various dangers and risks as part of the job. Police officers are aware of these risks that come with performing their job. But with the proper equipment this risk is reduced considerably. When a law agency considers the equipment to provide for their officers the first consideration should always be the safety of the officer followed by comfort, durabilty and afforatbilty.

The job of law enforcement can be a very mundane and routine job. However the officer is trained to handle high stress and situations that puts him danger to protect the safety of the public. Providing the officer with the proper equipment to meet these threats will ensure the best outcome possible.

It becomes paramount that that the officer is provided with high quality, high performance equipment. This includes defensive gear including a handgun and baton. Other defensive equipment may include pepper spray, mace, stun gun or taser.

Safety equipment that the officer should also have readibly avaialbe includes a flashlight with extra bulb storage. Sovme law enforcement agents will carry multiple flashlights. Extra batteries should also be avaiable. Even during the day a police officer may find themselves in a dark building or warehouse in reponse to a call or suspicious activity. Without a light source the officer would be putting themselves in unnesseary danger.

Handcuffs are also considered safety equipment. Used to secure a person taken into custody while being transported or proccessed. They will help to prevent the suspect from making an attempt on the officer or to escape when the officers attention is not focused directly on the suspect.

Pepper spray has been part of the police officers gear for many years. These sprays are used in the form of a powder very similar to chili powder. The main ingredients of this powder spray are capsicum and oleoresin. It is commonly used in the case of public conflicts. It helps to paralyses the larynx in a persons body for a short time stopping the supply of oxygen to any person it is used against, usually causing the recipient to experience unconsciousness. There are several varieties of sprays, such as stream spray, cone mist spray, fog sprays and mace sprays that are available.. These sprays are all different but the effect is the same.

Stun guns are a newer and more recent addition to the police officers standard equipment. This device will cause a high voltage shock to the target, causing the person to be disabled for a short period time as they recover from the effects of the stun guns discharge. This is a great alternative to a hand gun and much less likely to do any serious bodily damage.
